At 19, Violette Nozière was sentenced to death for parricide. Abused by her father, her voice remained unheard. She escaped the guillotine and was released in 1945. She married, had five children, rebuilt her life in Normandy, and fought to obtain her rehabilitation. To this day, her children still have questions. This film is an opportunity for them to make Violette’s voice heard. One of her granddaughters now wants to put an end to the family’s unspoken truths.

FILMOGRAPHY OF THE DIRECTOR

Julie Biro is a trained historian. She worked for twenty years with NGOs in Eastern Europe, where her passion for cinema was born. In her first film, Return to Višegrad (2021), she recounts an attempt to reunite former classmates 25 years after the Bosnian war. In The Silence of Violette, the director meets the children of Violette Nozière, who only discovered their mother’s story after her death.
