On a winter evening, at a deserted gas station, Sami, a young country musician, meets the beautiful Julia, out of gas and out of cell phone.
Living alone in his car since his ex asked him to move out because ”it’s been four years”, Sami invites Julia “to his place” and ends up spending the night with her.
“Four years later”, while Julia works for a start-up active in fair trade. Sami, him, quietly puts the finishing touches to his country duo with his best friend Fernand, 78 years old, alcoholic and exuberant guitarist, living in a medico-social establishment.
If the bond between Fernand and Sami is in good shape, life with Julia becomes more and more complicated. Over time, the casualness that made Sami’s charm backfired … And you, do you know any couples who last more than four years?

Director’s bio

Born in Aubonne (CH / VD), Mathieu Urfer studied psychology at the University of Lausanne before entering the Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne in the cinema section where he completed a master’s degree in scriptwriting. He then worked as a screenwriter on several series for Radio Télévision Suisse (La minute kiosque, CROM). Pause is his first feature film as a director and he is currently writing his next film, Joy.

Mathieu Urfer is also a musician. He has played in several groups with which he has toured from Germany to Japan, including the United States. In 2006, he formed Sigurd, a minimal post-rock duo whose Hammond organ basses he played on the feet would gradually lead him to country music and love songs he composed for the soundtrack of Pause.
